Well the fiberglass rods you were taking from the yard reflectors is a bit more flexible but the wound epoxy tubes would be a bit stiffer. But it takes a pretty hard hit from on high for a spar in a kite to break. And they are generally cheap to buy. Though if you go in for carbon fiber rods it can ...

Multi-rotor landing gear

have you thought about using kite rods for the skids?

a filament wound epoxy tube 32 inches in length weighs in at just over half an ounce at .656 That's a

length 32.5"
OD .231"
ID .176"
WT0.656 oz

it's sturdy hollow and shouldn't bend like you reported on.

I'll have to get a picture of our setup. the controller hardware and Power supplies are on a board hung on the side of the CNC and I have the computer on a stand up cart next to that which I can roll around.

I was actually referring to the Cloth Hanger posted earlier. That run that will take 9 hours.

NidalRobb, Have you worked the hanger board using a clearing cut first with a large bit to get most of the spoilage out of the way? That may cut down the cut time significantly.

With it getting warmer I would think the mice would be happy outside and only come in when the weather turns bad and colder. Remember you probably still have to deal with the connectors on the end of the cables. So some concessions will have to be made with the gasket. Hmm here's something to think ...

well, yeah, there is a built in fudge factor when dealing with hand cut plans vs machine cut.

I've been slowly working on creating a set of CNC files for cutting most of the mail truck bank from Rockler. Funny enough I'm finding some mistakes in the design. Mostly it's "use this size arc and have this much space between the top edge and the points where the arc finishes. (the windshield...

You can level the board by running the router across it taking off say one or 2 thousandths of an inch or until you can see cuts on every part of the board your project board is going to rest on. The Java applet I linked previously will generate a gcode run to do just that. Or you can just use your ...

Well I provided the info for anyone that wanted to shortcut the system. I use a sacrificial board under work too. I've been working my own version of a dust shoe using a 4 inch hose and my trial cuts have been a bit off. Also when we cut the dragon cable more often than not we would cut clean throug...

Flattening the work table

I found this web site where the gentleman has created a java applet that generates G-code to order for flattening the table. (milling it flat) While it won't help those of us with the all aluminum tables. It will help those with mdf tables

Well, I've continued my hunt for feed rate information and stumbled across this article. http://www.precisebits.com/tutorials/calibrating_feeds_n_speeds.htm While it's talking about micro bits, it still seems a great bit of advice for anyone starting out with a CNC system. Particularly about finding...

Sorry Tom,
I'm jumping the gun a bit on it. we're still building the CNC. It will be a Hitachi router (the one referred to on the site here. 12dvc?)

I'm just trying to find a formula I can use.

Feed Rates

With all the money going into this project, I'm worried about breaking bits or projects by setting the wrong feed rate.

Just where can I find the details on figuring this and the stats I would need for the bits?

well you can use it to make some Great fitting inlay for a jewelry box. Very intricate coasters (much like scroll saw work) So a mirror and frame would be good.
