Re: Bearings replacement

Single data point: I built my 27x50 ten years ago, ran hundreds of jobs, moved it from NJ to Atlanta, and never had a bearing complain even a little. Chances are, those bearings will go another 10 or more years. They are not anywhere near max load or speed. Bearings fail (aside from defects) from st...

I envy the size of that machine! Generate G-code for both, with just one slot. Compare the G-code details, the edges should both be the same. If they are not the same, go to the software supplier with your problem. If they are the same, you'll need some additional work to figure out what's not right...

Re: Under Table Storage

Due to plywood plates used to keep the metal stand I made stable, there is only about 10" open height beneath the front of my 27 x 50. I built flat 'carts' on wheels that slide in and out from under there and can hold many things, as long as they fit between the table legs (just over 2 ft). On ...

Welcome. It's a CNC Router, not a mill.
I suppose with a good spindle, cooling and tooling Stainless might be possible.
My KRMx02 uses a router, and struggles cutting 0.093" aluminum sheet.

Here is one example of such a drill bit. https://www.mcmaster.com/29355A19/ The difficulty will be getting a collet to hold it. I am not recommending this set, but it is but one example that contains a suitable collet for 1.5 mm drill bits. https://amzn.to/2M1UUVJ An option is a carbide bit like htt...

Re: Milling Aluminum Long Board truck

Our HS Robotics team makes these pulleys by drilling (with the CNC) the correct diameter holes first, then machining at the right diameter to expose the needed tooth pattern. They tried doing it after cutting out the diameter, but the drill was not rigid enough to drill half a hole.

After a while you can get to the point where you CAN read a script and make it sound like stream-of-conscious...

Yes, belt drive on the reducer. You are spot on about belt drive instead of R&P. That's a CNCRouterParts pinion and gear set (and belt) with my own chunk of aluminum and some 'fancy' lathe work. I have a 4-jaw chuck and know how to use it... IIRC they sold those as spare parts, or maybe i...

Re: My DIY rack clamps

Nice. Belt drive is definitely the way to go, for vibration, smoothness, noise. And it is a mechanical fuse so the gear teeth don't break off. Delrin may end up being stiffer than Corian. Aluminum, of course, even more so. 1/8" is likely thick enough for that. Still, performance is right where ...

Re: Tool recommendations for 3d wave surface

Depends on the overlap. 15% overlap with a 1/4" round nose might not even need sanding. Honestly, I'd try one using a 1/2" straight bit with no overlap for roughing and 1/4" with 15% overlap for finish. Try to remove most of the material in roughing so the finish pass can run at high ...

Re: Tool recommendations for 3d wave surface

Perhaps unintended, but the sharp edge where the 'wave' turns into 'flat surface' will be a mild challenge. Other than that, cutting this should be no problem. Use at least a 1/4" ball bit, maybe larger to save time. Those waves look large enough to rough with a flat end bit, which may remove m...

Yes, $30 is about right. I was commenting that a "single bit" at $50 was expensive, more than the Onsrud. Then I realized the offer was for 5 bits , so $10 a bit, which is less than the Onsrud by a decent amount. For me, I prefer the Onsrud over a Chinese bit, but that more a political thi...

I like the precise bits collets, and the kit with 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 for $90 is a fair deal.

The bit at aliexpress, however, is $50. Doesn't seem like "lower cost" when compared to an Onsrud 63-620 for example. What am I missing?

EDIT: Ah, that's $50 for FIVE bits. Definitely a bargain.
