Once complete I doubt they will be able to hit the target of $3000 unless they out source it to China. If they go for the high quality end, I suspect the cost will be more like $5000-$6000. Or even higher.

the normal price is $175.

If you can get a computer with a parallel port, that is a better way to go, less complicated and easer to setup. I only recomend the SmoothStepper as a last resort.

Just to reinforce.

Don't paint, prime, or use a coating of any kind on the rail edges. Nothing you can do will hold up to the wear of the bearings on this surface.

To keep the edges from rusting I put a couple drops of oil on a rag and coat the edges.

Dont prime the edges. Tape them, then prime and paint the rest of the rail. Place a couple drops of oil on a rag and lightly coat the edges.

If your machine is in a likly place where rust may develop, You may have to clean and coat the edges more oftain.

Yes it's oil based. Dont thin it though, unless you are going to spray it. The key is giving both the primer and main color a chance to cure. That said dont freak if you scrape some off later. Just touch it up.

The cheapest. As a matter of fact many I have found that many of the higher grade carriage bolts may give you problems.

For hex bolts its no big deal but when ordering carriage bolts I recomend you get a sample and verify that the neck on the bolts is not too long. These can cause build problems.
