Clamping Tip

This is not nessarily a tip. It's more of an observation. As you all know I use wood clamps. The main reason I use wood clamps is so I dont destroy a $60 bit if I hit one. Beirlive me, at some point you will hit a clamp with a bit. I have a rule of thumb when using wood clamps. If I am using a 1/8&q...

Machine Rapid Tip (Observation)

While The KRMx01 can travle at speeds of almost 600IPM once it has been broken in. The KRMx02 can travel even faster. I have had the LAB machine up to speeds of 2000IPM. While its fun to push our machines to the limmits, here are a few observations. I run my KRMx01 at rapids less than 400 and my KRM...

Router Bit Tip #1

Keep your bits separated. I keep all my MDF bits in a separate plastic container. All my metal cutting bits in a second container. And all the remaining or unused bits in yet a third container. I like using the little tackle box containers you get at Wal-Mart for a couple bucks. Let me clarify MDF b...

Truth about quoted accuracy statements

The KRMx02 has a resolution of 1909.86 steps per inch on X and Y, and 4000 steps per inch on Z. These are standard numbers utilizing a 20 tooth and 20 Pitch Rack and pinion system with a G540(10 microstep) These numbers should be considered the maximum limits and what are often quoted by designers o...

I had the drawings and did not find them that usefull. Honastly Its a matter of ripping out out the electronics. And identifiing the two leads going to the brushes. On the Makita its pretty easy. Its the two wires sticking up out of the guts of the router. A more difficult task is to get the Super P...

Clean Edges (TIP)

Oftain when CNCing a part you will get fibers on the edges of the cut. I found the fastest way to clean them up is to take a small palm sander with 120-180 grit paper and to sand the surface whil it is still attached to the waste. (tabs still intact) Just a quick sanding of 10-20 seconds will make t...

General Part Creation Workflow

If you are new to CNC'ing the process of creating a part (object, thingy, widget) may be a little daunting.

What I have done is documented the workflow I use for creating simple parts.

We have completed about 20 upgrades and 8 projects. Its going to take time for us to get them documented ad posted on the web site.

We do have some ideas for a couple robot projects that the CNC can help us on. We also have a 50 Watt Epilog laser now as well so expect to see some goodies from that.
