I decided to do some experiments with my rotary drive and my plasma CNC.

Wow, that is so awesome, you've been busy it seems. Just so I understand this correctly, did you switch the Y axis to the Harmonic drive and disconnect the A axis? And there was nothing special done to the GCode?

Yep that is what I did. All CNC machines can do that.

I did have to change some settings in mach3 to get the travel to match the circumference I needed to cut. Then all you have to do is layout what you want to carve in a rectangle that matches where you want to cut.

There are several ways to do this but this is the most direct brute force method.
